I’ve always wanted to be a tutor at the university and I finally got the chance. It gave me the opportunity to improve my explanation skills, repeat the content from a course I loved and help some students on the way. Of course, whenever possible I like to collect basic anonymous data to then perfrom a little data analysis. It was a very easy job, because our tutorial consisted of students that would show up voluntarily to get help with their homework.
The Analysis#
We’ve had three homework assignments and the third one was optional. It’s quite clear from the charts that most students visited us right before the deadlines.
This is interesting. Most students visited us on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I believe there are two reasons for this. Firstly, most lectures at the Hauptcampus are between Tuesday and Thursday and, secondly, the deadlines were on Wednesdays.
The average visit count by tutor was 8.25 students, I got 4 in total, which is on the low side. I think that’s mainly because the distribution of students mostly correlated with deadlines and my tutorial on Friday was always quite away. All in all, the results weren’t too surprising
